The annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the “Web of Science” citation index.
Accordingly, the four CMESS researchers are among the one percent of the world's most cited researchers in their fields of research. The number of citations is an indicator of the extraordinary impact these scientists have on the research community. Thomas Rattei is listed in the Cross-Field category, i.e., dominating citations in more than one research field. In total, eleven scholars from the University of Vienna belong to this most-cited group of researchers. Thereby, CMESS is the institution of the University of Vienna with the most highly cited researchers.
