Start of CMESS Lecture Series – winter 2022/2023 edition

The CMESS Lecture Series has started with a talk by Peter Fineran from the University of Otago (New Zealand). He granted insights into “The phage-bacterium arms race of CRISPR-Cas and phage evasion strategies”. Five more talks by renowned international researchers are scheduled for the upcoming months covering topics of all four divisions at CMESS. The talks aim at motivating researchers at CMESS to look beyond the boundaries of their division more intensively.

They provide all attendees with new perspectives on their own research and with insights into current issues of the neighbouring research fields. All presentations take place on Thursdays and start at 12 pm (noon) and are presented on a hybrid setting on-site (HS 1 UBB) & via Zoom. Exceptions are marked accordingly.

The next lecture by Petr Baldrian, professor of Environmental Microbiology at the Czech Academy of Sciences Prague (Czech Republic) takes place on Thursday, 20th of October. He will talk about “Seasonality in a temperate forest: The interplay of activity of tree roots, fungi and bacteria”.
